HEALTH OF YOUR PAPILLON
______________________________________________________________________
Small dogs like Papillons generally
live a lot longer than larger dogs, mostly because they don't suffer any serious skeletal
problems as do larger dogs.

Papillons bones and joints don't need to support a lot of weight, so they don't break
down as quick.
Their heart doesn't need to pump blood through a big body, so it doesn't wear out as
soon.

Papillons metabolic
system has fewer growth hormones than bigger dogs. Studies suggest that growth hormones may
shorten life.
Papillons often live as long
as 15 - 18 years, some 20. If taken care of right thay may live to be 27 -
28 years.
Patellar Luxation can sometimes be heath issue. It
can be genetic or be caused by an injury from too much knee use. Genetic luxation is
usually found in younger dogs. However it can be found in all small and toy dogs.
Hypoglycemia is the result of a puppy not
getting enough food at times of stress or high energy use.
